This will be a craft workshop such as making paper with invasive water plants or making greeting cards with pressed wildflowers.
Offered: Saturday 10 AM-12:30 PM
Biking on the Trail
The paved bicycle trail is one of the park’s most popular offerings. It winds along the shore of Lake Arthur and features some up hill climbs and down hill thrills. This trail follows along Lake Arthur and is well shaded. It runs seven miles from one end to the other, completing a total of fourteen miles. A guide will meet you at the Spokehouse Bike Rental and assist you in selecting a bike. Bikes are available for adults and children. Pull behind trailers and bike seats are available for the little ones. You may ride the trail on your own or with the guide.
Cost: $14/bike ($7/hour); children’s bikes available at a lower cost
Offered: Saturday 11 AM-1:30 PM & Sunday 10 AM-12:30 PM
Birding Hike
Your guides will take you to an area of Moraine State Park where you will have the opportunity to hopefully see a variety of waterfowl, song birds and hawks. Your guides will share information about various bird songs, the blue bird nesting program and you’ll make a visit to the owl rehabilitation project. Bring your binoculars!
Offered: Saturday 10:30 AM-1 PM & Sunday 9:30 AM-12 PM
Disc Golf
If you’ve never had the chance to play disc golf, now’s your chance! Similar to the game of golf, the course features an 18-hole design through the woods. Players throw discs (similar to frisbees) and count the number of throws until they get it into the basket at the end of the hole. Your guide will give you some disc-throwing tips and explain how to play the game. A perfect activity for families! Note: Participants will most-likely not play all 18 holes in the time allotted for this program.
Offered: Saturday 1-3:30 PM
Geocaching
Have some fun on a high-tech outdoor scavenger hunt! We’ll learn about geocaching, find out how to use a GPS unit (not the kind you use in your car!), and discover some treasure at select geocache sites throughout the park. This is a great activity for both adults and children. Participants will share borrowed equipment from Moraine State Park.
Offered: Sunday 11:15 AM-1:45 PM
Kayaking on Lake Arthur
Lake Arthur offers amazing opportunities to see wildlife and enjoy the outdoors. Your guides will teach you how to paddle so you can explore Lake Arthur from a unique perspective. Feel free to bring binoculars. All equipment will be provided. Minimum age requirement is 12 years.
Offered: Saturday 1:30-4 PM & Sunday 12-2:30 PM
Pontoon Cruise on Lake Arthur
Enjoy a 1 ½ hour guided tour on an enclosed 40-passenger pontoon boat on Lake Arthur. On the boat, you will learn about the park, the area’s natural history and wildlife as you enjoy very unique scenery. If you’re lucky, you may even see an American bald eagle!
Cost: $10/adults, $5.50/kids payable at the Owlet Gift Shop
Offered: Saturday 12:30-3 PM & Sunday 12:30-3 PM
Tour of Davis Hollow Cabin
The North Country Trail is America’s longest National Scenic Trail stretching 4,600 miles between North Dakota and New York. The trail also winds through Butler County, and we’ll enjoy a scenic hike where the trail starts in Moraine State Park near the shore of Lake Arthur. Along the trail, your guide will point out numerous historical sites including Davis Hollow Cabin. We’ll tour the 200-year-old cabin and discuss how it is used today.
Offered: Saturday 11:30 AM-2:15 PM & Sunday 10:30 AM-1:15 PM
Historic Oil Pump Demonstration, Museum and Short Hike
Come see some of Butler County’s oil history during a demonstration of the old historic oil pump at Moraine State Park. It is powered by a 15 horsepower bessemer gas engine. The museum has many artifacts from the oil operation of the 1920s, including rod mines that hold pump jacks and remains of an iron king well maintenance machine. There will also be an optional short easy hike on the Wyggeston Trail that goes by this historic site.
Offered: Saturday 2:15 - 4:30 PM
